Job Details
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Prepare and review individual, corporate, and partnership tax returns across a varied client base
- Communicate directly with clients to gather supporting documents and deliver timely service
- Identify tax issues and develop practical, well-reasoned solutions
- Provide tax planning guidance and review complex income tax returns
- Supervise tax team members to ensure accuracy and quality across all return filings
- Monitor federal and state legislative and regulatory developments, communicate impacts to management and staff, and develop strategies to capitalize on tax law changes
- Prepare and review technical tax memoranda
- Correspond with tax authorities to resolve notices and inquiries
- Maintain effective control procedures across all aspects of the tax process
- Train and mentor staff on firm policies and procedures
You Should Have Most of the Following
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting (Master's in Accounting or Tax preferred)
- 5 to 8 years of experience in public accounting
- Demonstrated experience preparing returns for individuals and closely held businesses, including S-Corps and partnerships
- Strong project management, analytical, and written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage competing priorities, deadlines, and budgets simultaneously
- Proficient research and accounting skills with a drive to continue growing professionally
- Ability to communicate relevant information clearly to partners, managers, and clients
- Reliable transportation and ability to work in-person in Wilmington multiple days per week
Nice to Have
- Active CPA license
- Experience with QuickBooks
- Experience with high-net-worth individuals and multi-state tax returns
- Experience preparing exempt organization tax returns
- Prior experience managing a small team
