Job Details
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Own and manage an assigned portfolio of business-owner clients as the lead relationship manager and primary point of contact for all tax strategy and advisory matters
- Lead tax planning and strategy conversations, translating complex tax concepts into clear, practical guidance clients can act on
- Review complex business and personal tax returns for accuracy, completeness, technical soundness, and alignment with each client's broader strategy
- Identify tax planning opportunities, risks, and inconsistencies during the review process and provide technical direction to preparers and internal team members
- Coordinate execution of client tax strategies across returns, planning deliverables, and advisory work, keeping deadlines and action items moving forward
- Proactively communicate with clients throughout the year rather than waiting for filing season touchpoints
- Recognize opportunities to deepen value within existing client relationships and recommend additional services where they clearly serve the client's goals
- Escalate high-risk or nuanced tax matters appropriately while maintaining full ownership of the client experience
You Should Have Most of the Following
- 4 or more years of experience in tax preparation, tax review, and/or tax advisory work
- Demonstrated ability to review complex business and personal tax returns with strong technical judgment
- Solid working knowledge of tax concepts relevant to business owners, entrepreneurs, and closely held entities
- Direct client communication experience, including leading meetings and managing ongoing relationships
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain tax matters clearly and confidently to non-technical audiences
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and take full ownership of client outcomes
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Tax, or a related field
Nice to Have
- CPA or EA designation
- Master's degree in Tax or Accounting
- Experience managing a dedicated book of business or ongoing client relationships in an advisory capacity
- Background working with entrepreneurial or closely held business clients
- Experience reviewing multi-entity, owner-led, or higher-complexity tax returns
